About Me
Reading books were the greatest joy in my youth. Stocking in the dorm room, I read plenty books to forget the loneliness. Other joy in my life was to know the history. Studying history was like hearing one big tales. Through the books and history, I learned the world and grew my perspective.
Entering my adolescence, I experienced the confusion of my characteristic and of the world just as many teenagers. I tried to find the answer from the book, and my 11th grade American Literature class gave me great inspiration to develop my answer. I fell in love with the Transcendentalism and Modernism literature. Ralph Waldo Emerson's "Self-reliance" and W.H. Auden's "Unknown citizen" became the base of my philosophy. Especially, when I read the "Unknown citizen", I was embarrassed because it was almost similar to my story. I was a man of conformity who obeyed every rules of the society without knowing why the rules existed.
I tried to set my own perspective and value. Nonconformity was what I pursue. My passion was boosted after I read the book Lolita. The book is not about encouraging nonconformity of the society; rather, the book is just about destruction of individual by the desire. The protagonist does not care about rules that society pursues or requires. That is point what I admired and felt envy about.
Seeking my own value, I searched many philosophical books. I still did not find the real; instead I found something else from the book of Shakespeare, “The tragedy of Macbeth”. “Foul is fair, fair is foul.” Shakespeare suggested that all the kings are morally corrupted to gain their power. Through the story, I felt that even the great leaders in the history put themselves into immoral for achieving their power. I concluded that there is no flawless condition in the world; therefore, it is better to set our own standard and faith to fulfill their desire.

Eastern social welfare is facility for adapting orphans in Korea to USA. I did volunteering work in Eastern social welfare during the summer vacation. I did chores, usually transporting big boxes.
Since I do not have license, I could not actually interact with babies, I helped the other jobs. One special thing I did was translating letters in the office.
The letters of adapted kids revealed their conflict and confusion about their character and origin. Through the translating job, I could learn that people in various environment experience many problems. I could think about the concept society.
